Here at the Toowoomba Turf Club, we’re eagerly anticipating the upcoming Mort & Co King Of The Mountain race, but we realise that many might be unfamiliar with the concept of a Calcutta. So, we’re here to explain how it will all come together at the 2023 Ray White Toowoomba Calcutta Evening.

THE RAFFLE TICKETS DRAW
Each raffle ticket costs $10 and is accessible before and during the event. The Calcutta begins with the drawing of one ticket for each runner in the King of the Mountain. If your ticket draws a horse, you ‘own’ that horse before the auction phase. The funds generated from the ticket draw contribute to the prize pool.

THE BIDDING PROCESS
During the Calcutta event, each runner will also be auctioned, giving attendees the chance to place their bids. You have the option to bid individually or collaborate to form a syndicate with fellow guests.

When the gavel drops for each runner:

50% of the final sale amount is awarded to the ticket holder that drew that specific horse; the remaining 50% contributes to the growing prize pool.

The highest bidder during the auction phase secures ownership of the horse (alongside the raffle ‘winner’). Successful bidders are required to settle their purchases on the spot – we offer both cash and EFTPOS/credit card payment options for your convenience.

POST-RACE DISTRIBUTION
Following the conclusion of the Mort & Co King Of The Mountain race, the prize pool will be distributed as outlined below:

60% awarded to the owner of the victorious horse.

20% allocated to the owner of the second-place finisher; and

10% granted to the owner of the third-place contender.

If you’re curious about the thrill of having a horse compete in the Mort & Co King Of The Mountain, don’t miss the chance to attend the 2023 Mort & Co King Of The Mountain Ray White Calcutta evening!
