TOOWOOMBA Turf Club and Racing Queensland are thrilled to announce the addition of an exciting and unique race for Queensland.

The Mort & Co King Of The Mountain Race will be a race for Queenslanders from top to bottom – Queensland bred and Queensland trained.

Set to be run on New Year’s Eve each year, the $750,000 Mort & Co King of the Mountain will be the richest provincial race in the State’s history.

Toowoomba Turf Club Chairman Kent Woodford said the TTC was honoured to host the slot race and was looking forward to an exciting race for all of Queensland to call its’ own.

“The TTC is proud to have partnered with an iconic and innovative locally-based business in Mort & Co and, together, look forward to showcasing this incredible opportunity for Queensland participants,” Mr Woodford said.

Racing Queensland and the TTC has worked hand-in-hand to create an event with a unique point of difference. The Mort & Co King Of The Mountain will see all participant prizemoney stay within the State.

Racing minister Grace Grace MP said she was excited to see another slot race added to the Queensland racing calendar, following the tremendous success of the inaugural “The Archer” in Rockhampton.

“The Mort & Co King Of The Mountain will provide an incredible finish to the calendar year. The Darling Downs is renowned for its’ contribution to the State’s breeding industry.” Ms Grace said.

Racing Queensland Chief Executive Officer Brendan Parnell said Racing Queensland was delighted to work with the Toowoomba Turf Club in bringing the Mort & Co King Of The Mountain to life.

“A race for Queensland-bred horses only is a fantastic initiative, incentivising the local breeding industry and the highly-vaunted QTIS scheme, which provides more than $12 million in prizemoney bonuses each year.

“We unashamedly want people to back Queensland, buy Queensland and breed Queensland,” Mr Parnell said.

Queensland QTIS horses that race in Queensland and are trained by Queensland trainers will be vying for $750,000 prizemoney (plus bonuses) and trophies on December 31 at Clifford Park
Racecourse, over 1200m. The Mort & Co King Of The Mountain will be hotly contested by slot holders and participants and is destined to finish the calendar year with a bang.
